Development

BIODAT is a relational database running on a MS SQL Server 2000.

By adaptation to the ABCD schema (Access to Biological Collection Data), funded under the umbrella of the DIG project, BIODAT became both a BIOCASE- (Biological Collection Access Service for Europe) and GBIF- (Global Biodiversity Information Infrastructure) provider, providing parts of the Bonn- (ZFMK) and the Berlin- (ZMB) collections. In this connection the close cooperation with the 'Museum für Naturkunde' in Berlin was very helpful, especially the collaboration with our programmer, Dirk Striebing and with the head of the IT Department Mike Schlott.

BIODAT's Cicada collection (Order Homoptera) became integrated into the European Natural History Specimen Information Network (ENHSIN) pilot by providing geo-referenced specimen data on the world wide web.
