DIG
The aim of DIG (Digitization of Key Insect Groups at ZFMK) is to computerize museum collections by digitizing specimens of representative insect orders (Orthoptera, Heteroptera, Homoptera, Hymenoptera & Diptera) and entering the associated label data into a database that can be used on-site and on the World Wide Web. Since digitization of mass collections - such as insects - at the specimen level is normally not integrated in the daily work of museum staff worldwide, a 'good practise' has to be developed, a key element of the DIG project.
DORSA (German Orthoptera Collections) is a specimen based database with internet access to important Orthoptera collections held in German museums. It includes geographic information on a world-wide basis as well as media data like images of type specimens and sound recordings ("Virtual Museum").
GROMS (Global Register of Migratory Species) is summarizing knowledge about migratory species for conservation.
BIOCASE (Biological Collection Access Service for Europe) will establish a web-based information service providing researchers with unified access to biological collections in Europe while leaving control of the information with the collection holders.
GBIF (Global Biodiversity Information Facility) mission is to make the world's primary data on biodiversity freely and universally available via the Internet.
BIOTA AFRICA is a cooperative, interdisciplinary and integrative research project with contributions from and in Benin, Burkina Faso, Germany, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Namibia and South Africa.
MfN (Museum für Naturkunde der Humboldt Universität zu Berlin)
Further development of BIODAT and its interfaces will be carried out together with the Museum für Naturkunde in Berlin.
ZEFOD (Inventory of Biological Research Collections) is a Meta-database providing an overview of collections in natural history museums, herbaria, botanical and zoological collections in Germany. Within the cooperative project the ZFMK was responsible for data capture in zoology, the Botanical Institute and Botanical Garden of the University of Bonn for data capture in botany and the German Centre for Documentation and Information in Agriculture (ZADI) for information technology thus creating a common database presented on the World Wide Web.
